The UP Cebu School of Management held its MBA Orientation this morning, July 18, 2026, at the UP Cebu Performing Arts Hall (PAH). Assistant Vice President for Administration Professor Tiffany Adelaine G. Tan highlighted the program’s unique blend of theory and practice. She emphasized that the program brings together faculty members and lecturers from diverse business sectors who enrich classroom learning with real-world industry experience while grounding discussions in sound management theories and research. She reminded students that effective management decision should not rely on gut feel alone but should be grounded in experience, theory, data, and research. Professor Tan also encouraged students to embrace research not merely as an academic requirement but as a mindset for understanding problems, evaluating evidence, and leading organizations with competence, integrity, and a commitment to nation-building.
The orientation also featured testimonials from two MBA alumni. Ms. Monalisa Chong encouraged students to pursue lifelong learning over prestigious titles, emphasizing that true leadership is measured not only by career advancement but also by using one’s knowledge and skills to create opportunities and make a positive impact in the community. Meanwhile, Ms. Angel Rose Trocio challenged students to pursue excellence and mastery while never losing sight of the person they are becoming, noting that while competence creates opportunities, it is character, empathy, and integrity that define lasting leadership. She also reminded students that, as Iskolar ng Bayan, they have a responsibility to think critically, stand against injustice, create value for society, and uphold the University’s ideals of honor, excellence, and service to the nation.
As part of the orientation, students were asked to reflect on the commitment they would renew as they begin another year in the MBA program. Zaniel John Barluado pledged to persevere despite the demands of balancing work, and family while remaining focused on completing the MBA program, embracing every learning opportunity, and staying guided by his goals, purpose, faith and discipline as he moves closer to earning the UP Sablay. Anna Belly Arriola reflected that every late night, sacrifice, and challenge is an investment in a better future for herself and her family, with every step bringing her closer to the finish line. Similarly, Mary Joy Moro renewed her commitment to persevere with faith, discipline, and purpose.
The orientation concluded with the election of officers and the induction of the new MBA Student Council.
The success of the MBA Orientation 2026 was the result of the collective efforts of the MBA Student Council, Program Coordinator Dr. Lyndon Carlos N. Ogoc and support staff member Ms. Ethel L. Nillama.
