Last 6 July 2017, Deputy Executive Director Mr. Napoleon B. Imperial informed two UP Cebu School of Management faculty members that they were selected to be part of the 2017 Philippine Higher Education Career System (Phil HECS) Executive Development Program (EDP) (see Annex A).  The Phil HECS EDP is a collaboration between the Commission for Higher Education (CHED), Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and the Philippines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). The program is aimed to prepare selected SUC officials to lead a State University and College (SUC) (see Annex B). For this second batch, there were more than 125 applicants who submitted their application, and of which a little over 40 were selected to participate in the program. However, only 35 candidates joined the 2017 batch. The program started on 19 July 2017 and officially ended on 20 October 2017 (see Annex C).

 

Figure 1 shows the class picture of the second batch of the Phil HECS EDP. UP Cebu School of Management participants were Dr. Tiffany Adelaine Tan and Dr. Marie Jane Matero.

The intensive program consisted of eight residential modules, university dynamics laboratory, and a proposal for an innovative project. These modules, activities, and plan are aimed to produce SUC Executives that demonstrate the six PHIL HECS competencies. The competencies are the following: to think strategically and creatively, to lead a globally competitive HEI, to build collaborative and inclusive working relationships, to generate and manage financial and other resources, to nurture a high-performing learning institution, and to manage self and works towards one’s full potential.

 

At the end of the program, each candidate is to present his/her HIT plan or the Higher Education Institution Innovative and Transformative Plan. The DAP, CHED, and PASUC awarded Dr. Tiffany Adelaine Tan a Certificate of Distinction, recognition for ‘her excellent’ HIT plan entitled “UP Cebu Data Science Center High-Performance Computing Data Center and Analytics.” CHED presented the award during the colloquium of the Phil HECS EDP on 20 October 2017 at Marco Polo Hotel in Pasig City. DBM Secretary Dr. Benjamin Diokno, CHED Chair Licuanan were amongst the guests of the final EDP activity.  Figures 2 and 3 show the culminating event.
